Lace For Love and Lemons

The real good of a piece of lace, then, you will find, is that it should show, first, that the designer of it had a pretty fancy; next, that the maker of it had fine fingers; lastly, that the wearer of it has worthiness or dignity enough to obtain what is difficult to obtain, and common sense enough not to wear it on all occasions” ~ John Ruskin

When I think of dresses for events and the holiday season, I often turn to lace as a way of injecting a little fine elegance and beautiful mystery into the occasion.  It hasn’t always been this way, Blog Reader; following the release of Madonna’s La Isla Bonita black lace always seemed too black Spanish window and therefore rather depressing so my teens were mostly spent avoiding it.  On reflection perhaps I just did not have the courage to wear lace then – because after all lace is as much about the space between the threads as the threads themselves.

A multitude of different types of lace exist. Lace can be bold, classic or edgy, demure or sexy, formal or casual; it both revels and conceals.  I opted for a lace wedding dress this year because I love the romance of lace too.

I feel rather inspired by lace. Here I’m sharing with you some of my inspirations and favourite buys of the moment. From bottom up: dress from For Love & Lemons; yellow lace tulle sleeveless dress and embroidered cardigan, LOYD + FORD from Montaigne Market; my dress from Think Closet NYC; Katlun lace bodice dress and Opie lace fit and flare dress from Reiss. Are you as inspired by lace as I am?

Hope you had a fabulous weekend, Blog Reader! xx
